Writing a CV for a Remote Job

2 min read · Updated 13 September 2026

Short answer

Add remote experience explicitly, name the tools you have collaborated in, and state your timezone and overlap availability near the top. Remote employers screen for evidence you can work without supervision, so results and autonomy matter more than duties.

A remote CV is a normal CV with three additions and one shift in emphasis.

Say you have worked remotely before

If you have, put it in the role line: "Support Lead, Acme (fully remote, 3 years)". It is the single strongest signal, because the employer's main worry is whether you will cope.

Name the tools

Slack, Notion, Jira, Linear, Figma, Zoom. It reads as filler to office employers and as competence to remote ones. Two lines is enough.

State your timezone

"Based in Kochi, IST, available 12:00-20:00 UTC" answers a question the recruiter would otherwise have to ask, and removes a reason to skip you.

Shift from duties to outcomes

Nobody can watch you work remotely, so they hire on evidence of results. "Handled customer queries" says nothing. "Cut first-response time from 14 hours to 3 across a 400-ticket weekly queue" says you produce outcomes unsupervised.

Common questions

Should I say I want to work remotely on my CV?

State your availability and timezone as facts. Save the motivation for the cover letter.

Does a remote CV need to look different?

No. Keep it plain and text-based so applicant tracking systems can read it. Design flourishes cost you more than they gain.
